about mill river rugs

I have hooked these rugs by hand in the traditional manner using a simple wooden-handled hook. They are made of strong rug wool yarn that is pulled up loop-by-loop through a foundation of linen. Many of the yarns have been hand-dyed.

The patterns for these rugs have been created using floral and nature themes. Many are drawn from the historic Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau aesthetic styles. 

 

I am also inspired by a variety of ethnic designs from around the world. Through honoring global artistic life and traditional crafts, we are brought closer to other cultures and times.
